3 compete to be Ketchum mayor

Incumbent Hall challenged by Shafran, Garcia

Ketchum voters will have three familiar faces to pick from when they mark their choice for mayor on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Incumbent Mayor Randy Hall wants to keep his seat at the middle of the table, but longtime resident Mickey Garcia would like his chance at the job. Garcia has run for the position before. He's a frequent attendee at city meetings, as is the third candidate, Phyllis Shafran.

Shafran's the mother of former Ketchum City Councilman Steve Shafran and has attended most council meetings during the past year. At meetings, she has often questioned and criticized elected officials on matters ranging from the budget to the number of public hearings held on important issues, such as the contract for service with the Blaine County Sheriff's Office.

The election winner will serve a four-year term and will attend twice-monthly City Council meetings, voting only to break a tie among the four members of the City Council.

Ketchum City Hall is the only polling location. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The deadline for filing absentee ballots to the city is Monday, Nov. 2.
