Ketchum voters look at long list of candidates

7 residents vie for 2 seats on City Council

Half of Ketchum's City Council seats are up for re-election this year, and seven candidates have jumped at the opportunity to bring in new blood.

The council consists of four members, with two coming up for election this year. President Baird Gourlay has been a member of the council since 2001 and is running to keep his position, but Councilman Charles Conn has called it quits.

The term will be for four years.

Besides Gourlay, the six other candidates are former Mayor Ed Simon, software engineer Lee Chubb, Clarion Inn owner Peter Lewis, Rickshaw restaurant owner Nina Jonas, contractor Carter Ramsay and Jan Hegewald, the youngest board member of the nonprofit Ketchum Community Development Corp.

The election is Tuesday, Nov. 3. The race will be an open election, meaning the two front-runners win; candidates aren't fighting for specific seats. Voters can vote for only one candidate if they want to.

Ketchum City Hall will be the only polling location. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The deadline for filing absentee ballots to the city is Monday, Nov. 2.
