Take city in a new direction

The city election is upon us, and the question is, in what direction do we the voters want Ketchum to go? Both Mayor Randy Hall and Councilman Baird Gourlay want to continue the work they have been doing. Are they going in the right direction and do we want them? Their record is:

· Both are responsible for creating a huge ($5.6 million) debt as commissioners of the Ketchum URA .

· Both have voted to award waivers from zoning code standards that allow tall, massive buildings to be built in areas that are inappropriate, and in direct conflict with our comprehensive plan. This sounds like spot zoning, which is illegal.

· Both have supported rezoning land that is dedicated to open space in perpetuity to be developed as they see fit.

· Both have allowed awarding the contract to build Northwood Place, an apartment building on city-owned property, to a Salt Lake City contractor, even though many local contractors need work. Do Randy and Baird really care about local contractors and businesses?

· Finally, their lack of respect to those who speak at public hearings is unacceptable, including personal attacks against people in the audience.

Please join me in voting for an honest, knowledgeable and transparent government by voting for Phyllis Shafran for mayor, and Lee Chubb and Ed Simon for City Council.
