Six members of the Sun Valley Men's Adult Baseball League (SVMABL) are joining other players with local connections to form the Sun Valley Solar Sox hardball team for next week's MSBL/MABL World Series in Arizona.
Local players are leaving today for the Phoenix area, where they will play their games in facilities of major league baseball teams Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Brewers, Seattle Mariners, Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles of Anaheim Angels.
Curtis Bacca, Anthony Anderson, Jimmy Bradley, Paul Creighton, Nelson Drewien and Jeff Poggi of the Wood River Valley will team up with Californians Pat Creighton of Encinitas, David Fox of Seal Beach, Sean Moran of San Francisco, Randy Whitecotton of Huntington Beach, Cliff Dittmore of Aliso Viejo and Mark Drewien of Long Beach.
They will compete in the 35-plus Division 2 Wood Bat Division, an 11-team bracket. In preliminary games starting Sunday, the Solar Sox play six games in four days:
Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m.: Solar Sox vs. Santa Barbara (Calif.) Hitmen. Monday, Oct. 26 at 9:45 a.m. vs. Komox Canadians; and 1:45 p.m. vs. Temecula Renegades. Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. vs. PDX Tigers; and 7:30 p.m. vs. Denver Royals at the Tempe Diablo Stadium, the L.A. Angels complex. Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 10:30 a.m. vs. Cascade Cardinals.
