WRHS, Cutthroats qualify for state footrace

Caulkins wins Wednesday’s district meet


Wood River High School's boys' and girls' cross country teams, along with two runners from The Community School, qualified Wednesday for State 4A and 2A competition on Halloween in northern Idaho.

Senior Chase Caulkins of Wood River won the Great Basin Conference 3.1-mile run Wednesday on the College of Southern Idaho campus in Twin Falls with a time of 16:41, three seconds faster than Alex Schenk of Twin Falls. Wood River's James Paris (17:23) was sixth, the same finish as Corrine Smith (21:11) for girls.

With the Wolverine boys placing second behind Twin Falls and the Hailey girls third, both WRHS teams made the grade for the State 4A footrace Oct. 31 at Circling Raven Golf Course south of Coeur d'Alene.

Community School senior Torin Tucker (18:55) was fourth of 32 boys and sophomore Morgan Atkinson (24:10) finished sixth of 28 in Wednesday's Fourth District 2A/1A race at Albion. Each qualified to run at Circling Raven.

Other Cutthroats were Zach Lindahl (13th, 20:32), Gray Riedinger (15th, 20:58), Eric Griffith (27th, 23:11), Katie Dumke (18th, 27:14), Sophia DeWolfe (22nd, 28:50) and Zoey Olbum (26th, 30:32). Check further Wood River run results in Wednesday's paper.
