Respect Hispanics

I have been in Dual Immersion for almost seven years and I think its great. It's wonderful learning a second language. I was hurt badly by the comments that were printed about Dual Immersion and Woodside Elementary. In all my years learning Spanish, I've never noticed anything bad about it. When I was at Woodside for fourth and fifth grade I had the best teachers and the best education. Out of all the schools I went to—Hailey, Woodside and Bellevue—Woodside was my favorite. I think I learned the most there.

I know that my friends and family strongly oppose what was written. I'm no baby but that article made me cry—it was so disrespectful. I think we should respect the Hispanic culture just as all the ones I know respect ours. I have four Hispanics in my class who speak little English. I find it a pleasure not a chore to help them understand the assignments. My teacher is also very helpful because he is taking Spanish classes to be able to help them more.

This is America. Why are we called the mixing pot if we won't mix? If you think back, America was made for the sole purpose of everyone being able to believe in what they want without discrimination. I think we should learn about other cultures so that we can respect them. Spanish is a beautiful language and I intend to stay in Dual Immersion until I graduate.
