Levy is prudent

Here are a few items I'd like you to consider before you vote on the Blaine County school plant levy on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

A vote for the levy extends a current levy. It is not a new tax. The funds collected will go toward refurbishing and/or building new classrooms and for technology purchases such as computers.

This levy is held separate from the general school budget. Plant levy funds are, in most cases, collected for planned expenditures and the school district often doesn't collect the maximum levy, but only the funds for projected needs. This plant levy is different from a bonded levy in that the county is not taking on more debt but collecting funds to pay for future upkeep. That means taxpayers are not on the hook for interest payments associated with a typical municipal loan/bond.

From my perspective, the Blaine County School District is saving for our children's future in a prudent, cost-effective way.
