Councilman weighs in

I have stayed out of the Sun Valley council race but have been asked by many to weigh in. Thus, I am sharing what I know about the three candidates whom I believe have the best chance. My criteria are independent thinking (i.e., unlikely to be cowed), intellect and lack of a personal agenda.

Milt Adam: I ran against Milt two years ago and won in a very tight race. Throughout, I gained admiration for Milt's thoughtfulness. He is well versed in city politics. I think the citizens of Sun Valley would never have to question Milt's intentions even if they might disagree on specifics.

Nils Ribi: Nils is at his best when contributing to nonprofits in the community. He has put his ample time to good use with organizations such as ARCH, Big Wood Backcountry Trails, Boulder Mountain Tour, etc. On the other hand, he's not at his best when wearing his City Council hat. As a result of what I have seen, I could never check his name on an election ballot. I'm not into public flogging so let's leave it at that. If he doesn't get elected, Nils would return to the terrific role he's played in the community with various nonprofits—a win-win for all parties.

Bob Youngman: Though we were on opposite sides of the city merger concept, I believe Bob is a man of intellect and integrity. I don't pretend to know Bob well, but what I have seen suggests that he not only is a sharp individual, but he is also someone who isn't going to shift his views just because it is politically expedient.

I think Milt and Bob would bring energy, independent thinking and intellect to their roles on the council and believe voters should consider giving them that opportunity.
