Leverage and you

As I hold my hand in a sling, I cannot help but think of a past conversation with my accountant, who said, "You should put your deductible in a medical savings account." Yes, that would have given me leverage in my situation, but that's now just hindsight. I was sure that in these economic times that I could stop any unnecessary spending, but who can stop the aging process or deter accidents?

This theory holds true for buildings and infrastructure as well as the human body. A broken bone can happen just like a broken-down furnace, aging sewer pipes and old water pipes—none have a good sense of timing. The school district does not have the ease or resources to let buildings fall into huge disrepair and just build new ones, unless it gets an even bigger bond like many of the other failing districts in Idaho.

I also hope that the people think clearly enough to see that the reason our school district still has art, music and other electives is because that money was not used for building upgrades and repairs.

If we want to continue these great programs and increase our technology to help the environment and our children, then please vote yes on the levy. If not, we surely cannot expect to draw people here to live and work; schools are the No. 1 reason people settle in the places they choose.

I hope this will help to educate and increase awareness. Please go to the open forums to get even more knowledge.

"Leverage: increased means of accomplishing some purpose." Education of our future generations serves us all with greater purpose and your knowledge of the levy can only help to accomplish this purpose.
