Prep runners tune up for district meet

At Tuesday’s Gooding Invitational


Five days after winning the Cutthroat Invitational at Elkhorn's Sagewillow Farms, Gooding's Mike McHan and Sasha Kent of Richfield were winners of Tuesday's Gooding Invitational cross country race at Gooding Golf Course.

It was a tune-up for the state-qualifying State 3A meet Wednesday, Oct. 21 at Albion.

The 3.1-mile prep footrace had runners from 10 schools in the boys' varsity event and nine girls' schools. Gooding (37 points) won the girls' team title and Kimberly (35) ran away with the boys' top honors.

Torin Tucker (7th, 18:09) and Grey Reidinger (20th, 19:21) led the Cutthroat boys. Emily Williams (10th, 22:27) and Zana Davey (22nd, 24:46) paced the Sun Valley girls.

Tuesday's top results:

Gooding Invitational Boys' Varsity: 1—Mike McHan (Gooding) 17:01. 2—Davis Jones (Declo) 17:10. 7—Torin Tucker (TCS) 18:09. 20—Grey Reidinger (TCS) 19:21. 61—Eric Griffith (TCS) 22:16 (87 runners). The only Cutthroat middle school boy was Chase Hutchinson, 8th of 39 runners in 12:33, 1:45 off the winning time.

Boys' varsity team: 1—Kimberly 35. 2—Declo 62. 3—Buhl 73. 4—Gooding 86 (10 schools).

Gooding Invitational Girls' Varsity: 1—Sasha Kent (Richfield) 20:37. 2—Sierra Zollinger (Declo) 21:05. 10—Emily Williams (TCS) 22:27. 22—Zana Davey (TCS) 24:46. 47—Zoey Olbum (TCS) 29:44 (55 runners).

Girls' varsity team: 1—Gooding 37. 2—Kimberly 59. 3—Filer 80. 4—Declo and Buhl 84 (9 schools).
