Sports summary

"Willie's Run for the Environment" is Saturday

Runners and walkers are planning to turn out Saturday, Oct. 17 north of Ketchum for "Willie's Run for the Environment." It is the senior project of Wood River High School student Daniel Sundali. The event is being held in memory of Jackson Hole's Willie Neal, 19, a Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation cross-country skier who died in a roller skiing accident in June 2009 in Maine.

The 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) trail run is scheduled for Saturday at Hulen Meadows Park north of Ketchum. All proceeds will go to the Willie Neal Environmental Awareness Fund.

The Elephant's Perch in Ketchum is accepting advance registrations ($20 individuals, $50 per family up to 5 members). Day-of-race registrations will also be accepted. There will be a kids' 10-and-under race around the park at 10 a.m., then the main event will occur about 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 17.

Senior hockey registration

B League ($235 per person) and B+ League ($235) Hockey League registration and league fees are due on or before Oct. 30, league commissioner Terry Crawford said Monday.

Forms may be picked up and dropped off at Sturtevants in Ketchum or Hailey. The league will not accept any players after this date.

Consideration will be given to skaters who played in the league last year. Once a player is placed on a team then the registration fee will become non-refundable.

B League is fun Co-Ed Adult (19-and-over) league with no record of wins or loses recorded and no end-of-the-season tournament. B League consists of fun hockey games with goalies and a referee at Sun Valley Skating Center.

B+ League is a competitive Co-Ed Adult (19+) league with wins and losses recorded and a championship tournament at the end of the season on the Sun Valley resort ice.

Players must be able to skate at an "A" or "B" level. You must register on line with USA Hockey. Go to USAHockey.com and click on register online. Print the form and attach to your registration. No player will be allowed to sign up for the local league who is not USA Hockey registered.

Sherbine on tour in Canada

If you're looking for Bellevue's Isaac Sherbine, you better look mostly in Canada for the next five months. There, the Wood River High School graduate and son of Rocky and Terri Sherbine will be showing off all the radical things you can do with a snowmobile as a competitor on the FSX International Freestyle and Snowcross "Fire on Ice" World Tour.

One of the hottest new events at ESPN's Winter X Games, the tour mixes music and extreme sports. Freestyle pro riders perform back flips and freestyle tricks above the center stage. The 2009-10 tour began Friday, Oct. 9 at Medicine Hat, Alberta and continues Oct. 17 at Cranbrook, B.C. There are eight shows in Canada through Dec. 5, and a spring tour in February and March of next year.

Sherbine, 20, has been riding snowmobiles all his life and competes on a Ski Doo XP RS 600. He progressed to racing snowcross and began riding freestyle two years ago. His career highlights include placing sixth at X-Games his first year competing and fourth at the 2009 Jackson Hole Comp. With Isaac's natural ability, strength and dedication the "rookie" should be in the top-three contention for a podium at "Fire and Ice."

Other Idahoans competing on the tour include Heath Frisby, 25, of Bellevue and Willie Elan, 23, of Twin Falls.
