Call for cornbread

The Sawtooth Botanical Garden's community cornbread contest seeks entries for its Harvest Festival on Sunday, Oct. 18, from 12-4 p.m. The festival will include a local chef chili cook-off with the community cornbread contest, which will feature prizes donated by local businesses. First place cornbread winner will win a season pass to Soldier Mountain.

Get ready for Halloween

The third annual Nightmare on Main Street in Ketchum will celebrate "Rocky Mountain Horror" on Saturday, Oct. 31. The celebration has expanded to include a free kids' party from 5-7 p.m. with trick or treating, costume contest, apple bobbing and face painting.

The street party will start at 8:30 p.m. and include a screening of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" at the nexStage Theatre, DJ music, costume contest, food and adult beverages. The event is presented by the city of Ketchum, Ketchum Event Planning Committee, the Sun Valley-Ketchum Chamber and Visitors Bureau, and Cox Communications. A $5 cover charge includes film screening and street party.

Library book sale benefits community

The friends of the Hailey Public Library will hold its 22nd annual used book and bake sale from Wednesday, Oct. 14, through Saturday, Oct. 17. Book and bake sale hours on Wednesday, Oct. 14, are from 3-6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 15, and Friday, Oct. 16, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The sale will take place at 507 S. Main St. in Hailey and will include hardbacks, paperbacks, DVDs, and books on tape and CD. Fresh baked goods will be for sale along with K&K Coffee.

Proceeds from the sale benefit the Hailey Public Library and help provide community services. Donations for the sale can be dropped off at the library or the sale location on Monday, Oct. 12. Tax receipts are available. Volunteers are needed to load and sort books, work the sale and do baking.

Young Americans tour to visit Hailey

The Young Americans 2009 Music Outreach Workshop Tour will present a three-day music workshop with over 200 Wood River Valley students from Thursday, Oct. 15, through Saturday, Oct. 17, at Wood River High School in Hailey.

The tour will conclude with a performance at the Community Campus in Hailey at 7 p.m. with Wood River Valley students participating in the show along with the Young Americans tour group.

The Young Americans consists of 200 members from over 37 states and seven countries. Among its over 3,000 alumni are professionals in music education, fine arts, motion pictures, television, radio, Broadway and recording.

Save the date for Papoose Club Holiday Bazaar

The Papoose Club Holiday Bazaar will take place Saturday, Dec. 5, and Sunday, Dec. 6, at Hemingway Elementary School in Ketchum. The two-day crafts fair will feature local and regional artists as well as a visit from Santa Clause. In addition, the bazaar will feature a soup café and holiday cookie sale.
