One soccer gold in the silver division

Sawtooth United Girls U-12 win title

The Ketchum-based Sawtooth United Football Club (SUFC) sent five youth soccer teams to the fifth annual Wells Fargo Fall Classic soccer tournament at Jackson Hole, Wyo. over the Sept. 26-27 weekend.

One of the SUFC teams, the Girls U-12 White squad coached by Dwight Cole, captured the Silver Division championship by winning four games and outscoring opponents 26-8. Eight different girls scored in the well-balanced effort.

The Girls U-12 team won its preliminary games 5-0 over Jackson Hole, 12-4 over Casper (Wyo.) Blades and 5-3 over Lander (Wyo.) Strikers, before walking off with the championship game win by a 4-1 score.

Continuing their winning ways, the Girls U-12 squad (3-1 in league play) picked up two league wins Saturday, Oct. 3 in Boise, beating Nampa Kickers United and the Kuna Pride.

In all, the five SUFC squads went 9-6-3 in their 18 games over two days at Jackson Hole. There were more than 800 players ages 5-15 representing 61 teams from Wyoming, Utah, Idaho and Montana in the tournament hosted by Jackson Hole Youth Soccer.

The Boys U-12 team went 2-1-1 with wins over the Lander Strikers 4-1 and Blitzz #1 by a 3-0 score. The Boys U-10 squad boasted a 2-1-0 weekend mark with a 5-3 victory over Jackson Hole #2 and a 5-3 success over Bozeman (Mont.) Blitzz #3.

SUFC Boys U-11s were 0-2-1, tying Les Bois-Jinga 3-3, and the Girls U-10 group finished 1-2-1 with a 3-2 triumph over Riverton and a 3-3 draw with Bozeman Blitzz #1.
