Former Blaine County Commissioner Sarah Michael started a new position as special advisor to the vice chairman of the California Energy Commission, James Boyd, on Tuesday. The position is situated in Sacramento, Calif. Michael is serving as Boyd's top policy staffer.
Michael retired from the Blaine County Commission in July 2008 after serving for more than seven years. She was replaced by Commissioner Angenie McCleary in mid-term, who was chosen by Idaho Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter.
In a news release, Michael said the Energy Commission leads California's efforts in energy efficiency, alternative fuels, energy research and development and energy planning, and is responsible for permitting all power plants over 50 megawatts.
"Most people know that I am passionate about transportation issues," Michael said. "Commissioner Boyd is the lead commissioner on transportation vehicle and fuels policy for California. He is a real pro and I will learn a lot by working for him and by returning to the Energy Commission."
Previous to her multiple terms as an elected county official, Michael worked with the California Energy Commission as a special advisor to the chairman and as a program manager for two divisions in the organization.
