Eco-Pest comes to Hailey

Jeff Ledford, who earned certification as an "integrated pest management specialist" in 2000, has brought "green" pest control to the Wood River Valley.

Integrated pest management reduces the use of synthetic chemical pesticides in fighting spiders, ants, flies and rodents, in favor of less-toxic, ecologically sound methods.

Ledford said his pest control company fights pests by removing from a home what they need to survive, such as moisture and food sources. Eco-Pest utilizes only botanical and boric acid-based pesticides, he said.

In addition, the company uses abrasive diatomaceous earth dust in cracks and corners to fight insects. Diatomaceous earth is a naturally occurring chalky dust consisting of the fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of hard-shelled algae.
