Gallery Walk

Galleries host monthly art walk

Gallery Walk, sponsored by the Sun Valley Gallery Association, will take place Friday, Oct. 9, from 5-8 p.m. Below is a description of the galleries that will be open and the works on display. The first eight galleries listed are members of the Sun Valley Gallery Association.

BROSCHOFSKY GALLERIES

The Courtyard, 360 East Ave.— During the Trailing of the Sheep Gallery Walk, Broschofsky Galleries will focus on fine regional art, historic through contemporary. Featured lamb tasting catered by Rasberrys and special guests John and Diane Peavey will be in attendance.

FREDERIC BOLOIX FINE ARTS

Friesen Building, second floor, Sun Valley Road and First Avenue—Frederic Boloix Fine Arts presents works by Francoise Gilot, Pablo Picasso and Spanish artist Salustiano.

FRIESEN GALLERY

Sun Valley Road and First Avenue—Friesen Gallery continues to celebrate a new body of work by painter Jeff Fontaine. Fontaine's "quilted" and painted metal panels collaged together are a play on colors and balance as well as texture, lines and geometrical juxtapositions.

GAIL SEVERN GALLERY

400 First Ave.—Gail Severn Gallery presents in Gallery I "Abundance" with works by Christopher Reilly and Michelle Haglund. Gallery II features "Silver Creek and Beyond" with paintings by James Cook, and in Gallery III an exhibition "Inspired by Idaho" will feature watercolorist Tony Foster and Sheila Gardner. In the Viewing Room works by Ed Musante and Jane Rosen feature their passion for nature.

GALLERY DENOVO

320 First Ave.—A group exhibition will includes works by Cynthia Fusillo, Fred Martin, Emanuel, Grahm Metson and a continuation of the debut of French sculptor Gerard Cambon's, "We Will Never Surrender." In the upstairs gallery will be "Passage: The debut of Yehouda Chaki in Sun Valley" featuring his vibrant landscape paintings.

GILMAN CONTEMPORARY

661 Sun Valley Rd.—The Gilman Contemporary will present Deborra Marshall Bohrer, "Moments in Transit." Bohrer's use of antique car doors provides a framework for capturing vignettes of life working the land. The viewer has an opportunity to peer through the window, literally, as stories unfurl before them. The artist will be in attendance and lamb tasting with CIRO restaurant will begin at 5 p.m.

KNEELAND GALLERY

271 First Ave.—The Kneeland Gallery presents "The Lay of the Land" featuring landscapes by Chuck Rawle. Additional featured artists have created specific pieces to tie in with the Trailing of the Sheep Festival. These artists include Linda St. Clair, Lori McNee, Seth Winegar and Bart Walker.

SUN VALLEY CENTER FOR THE ARTS

191 Fifth St.— The Sun Valley Center for the Arts' new exhibition, "Prospects: An Exploration of Mining," features work by Alfredo Jaar, and Sebastião Salgado, among others. Friday, Oct. 9, is also the annual members' party, "Mining and Martinis." Legend has it that martinis were invented when a miner in Martinez, Calif., asked a bartender for a drink worth its weight in gold. Meet artist Jennilie Brewster and view Lucy Raven's film "Chinatown." Sun Valley Center members and people who join that evening are eligible to enter a door prize drawing for tickets to upcoming Center events.

DAVID M. NORTON FINE ART

511 Sun Valley Rd.—Known for his paintings of real-life cowboys and their horses, Jim Norton also paints Indians in their original Plains costumes. His skill at depicting these subjects earned him membership in 1989 to Cowboy Artists of America, and he continues to win awards at the annual Cowboy Artists of America shows.

DREAMCATCHER GALLERY

200 S. Main St., Trail Creek Village—The Dreamcatcher Gallery will feature a collection of fine Native American art-and-craft work, including pottery, fetishes, paintings, traditional and contemporary jewelry, storytellers and ceremonial pieces of museum quality. Hand-carved custom furniture and books will be on display.

GALLERY 291

360 Walnut Ave. N—Gallery 291 is a new and innovative photography gallery in the heart of Ketchum's art and shopping district. The gallery explores the many alternative processes that are such an important part of the rich history of photography. A select group of contemporary and emerging artists are represented. Featured artists include Joyce Tenneson, Beth Moon and Paula Chamlee.

LYNN TONERI-R.C. HINK GALLERY

400 Sun Valley Rd.—Lynn Toneri presents a dynamic collection of landscape, floral and wildlife watercolors. They are available as original, limited-edition offset lithographs and giclee prints. A flamboyant interpretation of the West carved in wood by R.C. Hink includes hats, boots, barstools, beds, armoires, lamps, desks and wildlife sculptures. Exquisite hand-crafted jewelry, glass, sculptures and raku are all affordably priced, perfect for gift giving and collecting.

OPEN ROOM

Walnut Avenue Mall across from CIRO—The Open Room presents the photography of Paul Exline with music and refreshments. Come join the party on the edge of Ketchum.

THE STOECKLEIN GALLERY

151 Main St.—Named by True West Magazine as America's Best Living Western Photographer, David R. Stoecklein features in his gallery a collection of Western antiques and fine art images depicting cowboys, cowgirls and the Western way of life. In addition, the gallery is filled with local area images of such staples as Baldy, Sun Valley, Stanley, the Big Wood River and the Sawtooths.

WILL CALDWELL GALLERY

400 Sun Valley Rd.—The Will Caldwell Gallery on Sun Valley Road in Ketchum features paintings by valley artist Will Caldwell, who paints the seasonal colors of the Sawtooths' landscape. He also paints ethnic portrayals of faces from his travels. New paintings depict wildflowers contrasted with recently burned forests.
