A plea agreement has been reached in the case of a former Bellevue man accused of battering a police officer during a domestic incident in Bellevue in December 2008.
A trial had been scheduled to start Wednesday in Blaine County 5th District Court for 47-year-old Evan Glenn Bear, who court records state now lives in Sun Valley. Bear was to be tried on a felony charge of battering a police officer and misdemeanor counts of property damage and domestic battery.
According to court records, both misdemeanor charges were dismissed on Sept. 25 and the felony charge was reduced to misdemeanor "assault or battery upon certain personnel." The case was transferred from district court to magistrate court and a plea-and-sentencing hearing was set for Oct. 19 before Judge R. Ted Israel.
The case against Bear dates back to Dec. 8, 2008, when police were called to the home of Bear's wife. Bear allegedly locked himself in a bathroom and injured Bellevue Marshal's Deputy Rene Rodriguez when police tried to remove him. According to police reports, Rodriguez was treated at St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center for a hairline fracture on his L3 vertebrae.
A second count of felony battery on a police officer was dismissed at a preliminary hearing in February. In that charge, Bear was accused of causing severe strain to the right thumb of Blaine County Sheriff's Deputy Antonio Munoz.
Court records further state that a divorce was finalized between Bear and his former wife in July.
