Community School announces student honors

The Community School in Sun Valley announced honors this week for four of its seniors.

Jon Atkinson is the first student in the state to be named an Idaho Master Naturalist, which certifies him to "actively work toward the stewardship of Idaho's natural environment."

The Idaho Naturalist Program was started by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game in 2008. To qualify, a student completes 40 hours of hands-on experiential training on ecology, plants, animals and natural systems.

Ricki Eshman has earned Advanced Placement Scholar status for exceptional achievement in AP exams. The honor allows Eshman to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school and to earn college credit.

Torin Tucker was named a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist. He is one of 16,000 high school seniors in the U.S. to qualify for continued competition for some 8,200 National Merit Scholarships valued at more than $36 million.

Chloe Jory was named a Commended Student in the National Merit Scholarship program. Jory is one of 34,000 students nationwide to be named Commended Students, which requires placement in the top 5 percent of the more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2010 competition,
