Top-ranked among Idaho 4A boys in the newest Idahoxc.com poll, Wood River High School senior Chase Caulkins showed his stuff Wednesday with a strong finish at the Jerry Kleinkopf Classic prep cross country meet in Twin Falls.
Caulkins (16:36) finished a close second to 5A Highland of Pocatello sophomore Dallin Farnsworth (16:30) in the 134-runner boys' varsity 3.1-mile race at windy Canyon Springs Golf Course. Wood River junior James Paris (16:49) had an excellent fourth-place result.
Wood River's boys (119 points) ended up fourth of 19 schools behind Twin Falls (56), Hillcrest of Idaho Falls (82) and Highland (86). In all, there were 21 Wood River runners and seven from The Community School of Sun Valley. The total field of varsity and JV was 446.
Top Wood River girls were Corrine Smith 22nd in 22:02 and Tristin Bowers 23rd in 22:06. Fastest Community School girl was Zana Davey 57th in 24:14. Leading Cutthroat boy was Gray Reidinger 80th in 19:59.
