St. Luke's expands flu shot schedule

Due to community request, St. Luke's Family Medicine in Hailey has added an additional Saturday to its flu shot schedule. Seasonal flu vaccines are available to the public this Saturday, Sept. 26, as well as Saturday, Oct. 3 and 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The vaccines are also available during the week, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to noon and from 2-5pm.

Cost is $25. Insurance submission is the responsibility of the patient.

Pizza & Politics set for Sept. 30

The public will have a night next week to question Ketchum's mayoral and City Council candidates and grab a free slice or two of pizza.

The Idaho Mountain Express will host this season's opening Pizza and Politics forum on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 6:30 p.m. in Ketchum City Hall. In coming weeks, other forums will take place for Sun Valley, Hailey and Bellevue candidates.

The Express will buy the pizza, but the public needs to bring their questions. Press and public attending should take note that questions cannot address only one candidate but must be answerable by all candidates in each race.

Prescribed burn planned in SNRA

The Sawtooth National Recreation Area will conduct a prescribed burn in the Bromaghin Peak area near the headwaters of the Salmon River. The burn could be implemented anytime between Sept. 27 and Oct. 30, depending on weather.

About 200 acres are scheduled to be burned to help improve whitebark pine habitat and reduce hazardous fuels.

The immediate area around the burn will be closed for public use for two to seven days during and after ignition.

About 15 firefighters from the Sawtooth National Forest will help with the fire. Smoke will be noticeable.

Pitch in at Hop Porter

Volunteers will gather for a "Hands to Work Day" at Hop Porter Park in Hailey on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Adults 18 and older are invited to volunteer for a couple of hours to help restore the park's wooden playground structure, spread wood chips and otherwise spruce up the popular recreation area on Bullion Street.

Parks Manager Tex Mann will provide supplies, but volunteers are asked to bring tools, including shovels, sanders, electric screwdrivers and hammers. Light breakfast snacks and beverages will be available.

Comment sought for judge opening

The Idaho Judicial Council is accepting public comment until Oct. 8 for a 5th District Court judge opening created by the upcoming retirement of Judge Barry Wood.

Ten attorneys, including Hailey attorney Kevin Cassidy, have applied for the job.

BCRD to host 'Recess from School'

The Blaine County Recreation District will hold a Recess From School program on Thursday and Friday, Oct 1-2, which are teacher in-service days for Blaine County Schools.

The program is designed for kindergarten through fifth-grade children who need a safe, fun, creative place to spend the day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The theme for the two days is "cardboard creations." Cost is $35 per child with a sibling discount available.

Recess from School is held in the HUB Youth Center at the Community Campus. Kids should bring clothing suitable for play and appropriate for the outside temperature, a lunch and snacks.
