Retirement party set for marshal

A retirement party for Bellevue Marshal Ron Taylor is set for Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Brickhouse Bar and Grill in Bellevue.

An open house with a cash bar is planned for 5:30-7:30 p.m. followed by an optional dinner. Cost for dinner is $25, excluding tax, gratuity and beverages. Dinner reservations are due by Sept. 27. Contact Ginger Clement at 788-5563 or gclement@co.blaine.id.us.

Taylor retires at the end of the month after 22 years in law enforcement, the last two as Bellevue marshal. He will be replaced by Blaine County Sheriff's Sgt. Bryan Carpita.

Hear music in Hailey Monday night

The streets of Hailey will be alive with the sound of music Monday, Sept. 21, from 7-9 p.m., as the "Hailey Night of Music" returns for the last time this summer.

Paticipants can bike and walk Main Street and listen to live local music at KB's, Wiseguy Pizza, Sun Valley Brewery, Zou 75, Cowboy Cocina and Java.

La India, Lago Azul and Fresshies will also participate, with dining and entertainment.

Crash near Stanley kills 2

A motorcycle accident south of Stanley took the lives of a Boise couple Monday afternoon.

According to the Idaho State Police, they were discovered by an Idaho Transportation Department employee on the banks of the Salmon River.

Police reported that Ronald Weber, 63, and Sharon Weber, 60, were riding a motorcycle northbound on state Highway 75 when, for unknown reasons, they drifted off the right shoulder and plunged 90 feet down an embankment. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Both riders were wearing helmets and alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Smart Growth hires interim director

Wood River Land Trust's planning coordinator has been named interim executive director at Hailey-based Citizens for Smart Growth. Vanessa Crossgrove Fry, who served as executive director for three years, is on maternity leave.

According to a news release issued by the organization, Nathan Welch brings to the job an extensive knowledge of growth, development and conservation issues in the Wood River Valley. He has been working as planning coordinator for the land trust for the past two and a half years, concentrating on local land-use planning.

"I've worked closely with Citizens for Smart Growth on development issues in the past, and I'm excited to share the organization's vision for vibrant communities throughout Blaine County," Welch said.

A Utah native, Welch earned graduate degrees in biology from Utah State and Duke universities.

Democrats to meet Sunday

Blaine County Democrats will host an organizational meeting Sunday, Sept. 20, at the Senior Connection in Hailey from 3-4:30 p.m.

The purpose of the meeting is to get feedback on how people would like to see the grassroots organization continue to grow and work to its full potential. Lance Whitney, Idaho state director of Organizing for America, which is what the Obama campaign evolved into, will attend.
