Gun incident leads to mental hold

A Bellevue woman was taken into protective custody Wednesday morning after she allegedly fired two shots into a ceiling at her home in the northwest part of town.

Twelve local police units descended upon the home after an emergency call was made to authorities at about 5:30 a.m. Bellevue Marshal Ron Taylor said police waited until about 8 a.m. before entering the home. When they did, they found the woman asleep.

While surrounding the premises, officers "ascertained there was no danger in the home" and apprised neighbors of the situation, Taylor said.

"We were making sure we didn't rush into anything," he said.

The woman's name was not released. Taylor described her as "middle-aged."

After the woman was taken into custody, Taylor said, a designated mental examiner ascertained that she needed further evaluation and she was transported to an undisclosed mental-health facility.

Taylor said the incident remains under investigation and declined to discuss why the woman was upset.
