Sun Valley girls rout Declo 5-0

Another hat trick for Eshman

Senior co-captain Erica Eshman stayed red hot, and so did The Community School girls' soccer team Tuesday with a 5-0 High Desert Soccer Conference (HDSC) win at Declo.

Eshman (17 goals season) recorded her fifth three-goal hat trick in her team's nine games as the Cutthroats (6-3-0, 5-1-0 league) made it 5-0 for September—all shutout victories by a combined 30-0 score.

Junior Freya Dickey (7 goals season) and freshman Ellie Swanson (6 goals) added singles for the Cutthroats. With seven games left in the regular season, Eshman (35 goals career) has an outside shot at not only Hannah Hennessy's school single-season record of 30 but also Langely McNeal's career 51.

Coach Kelly Feldman's Cutthroats, winners of five straight and six out of seven, kept Declo (0-7-3, 0-5-1) winless, but faced tougher tasks at Sagewillow Farms yesterday and today.

They hosted the league-leading Filer Wildcats (8-1-1, 6-0-0) Thursday. Filer blanked the Cutthroats 4-0 Aug. 25 and has lost only once, 1-0 to American Falls. Filer beat visiting Gooding 5-0 on Tuesday.

And the 3A Cutthroats will host the highly regarded 4A Twin Falls Bruins Friday, Sept. 18 at 4:30 p.m. Twin Falls (7-2-2, 4-1-0 Great Basin) comes to Sun Valley after winning 4-1 over Minico in Rupert Wednesday.

Cutthroat boys tie Declo

Senior Tanner Flanigan scored his team's only goal to equalize matters in a 1-1 HDSC tie at Declo Tuesday. Flanigan was coach Richard Whitelaw's "Man of the Match."

The Cutthroats (2-4-2, 1-3-2 league) were fairly equally matched with Declo (1-6-1, 1-4-1) in the first meeting of the season between the two teams.

On Thursday the Cutthroats tried again for Whitelaw's 200th career coaching victory when they hosted winless Filer (0-8-1, 0-4-1) in another HDSC contest. On Friday, Whitelaw's team goes to 4A Twin Falls (2-7-1, 1-3-1 Great Basin Conference.
