Police investigate battery theft

By TERRY SMITH
Express Staff Writer

The Blaine County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft of 16 batteries from four trucks involved in a road rehabilitation project on U.S. Highway 20 near Picabo.

Sheriff's Lt. Jay Davis said the theft was reported Wednesday, Sept. 9, and occurred sometime the night before. Davis said the batteries, valued at $200 each, were not apparently installed in the trucks but were instead on hand for road construction equipment.

The trucks are owned by Western Construction Inc., a Boise company contracted for the road project between Gannett Road and the Silver Creek bridge east of Picabo.

Davis said the trucks were parked at a staging area near the intersection of Gannett Road and Highway 20 when the batteries were taken.
