Middle School to hold open house

Wood River Middle School will hold an open house on Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 6:30-8 p.m.

Parents and the public are invited to meet teachers and other staff members. Kitty McCue, regional representative for the Center for Talented Youth, will be in Room 750 to meet with interested parents from 6-6:30 p.m.

La Alianza receives $3,000 grant

The La Alianza Multicultural Center in Hailey has received a $3,000 grant from the Deer Creek Fund of the Idaho Community Foundation. A press release states that the funding will help La Alianza "continue providing quality services to the Latino community in Blaine County and hire a part-time staff person to assist in service delivery."

The center is located in Room 201 at the Community Campus on Fox Acres Road. Its mission is to improve understanding, communication and interaction among the county's cultural groups.

Church seeks help for hurricane victims

The Calvary Chapel Wood River is collecting relief items to send to Mulege, a town in Baja California, Mexico.

On Sept. 3, Baja was blasted by a Category 3 hurricane, which is a storm defined by winds of 111 to 130 m.p.h. The storm surge caused extensive damage.

Relief items sought include duct tape, tarps, plastic sheeting, small stuffed animals, toiletries, paper towels, towels, rags, first aid items, surgical masks, rubber gloves, feminine hygiene products, clothing, laundry detergent and non-perishable boxed food.

Donations should be dropped off at the Calvary Chapel at 21 E. Maple St. in Hailey, near the north end of Karen's Pharmacy.

Volunteer for highway cleanup

The Environmental Resource Center's semi-annual cleanup of state Highway 75 north of Ketchum is set for Saturday, Sept. 19.

The ERC adopted a two-mile stretch of highway in 2006 and has been organizing the event twice a year since then. Volunteers will pick up litter along the highway just north of Saddle Road, between mile markers 129 and 131.

The cleanup will begin at 10 a.m. and should take no more than two hours. Volunteers are encouraged to meet at the ERC office at 9:45 a.m. to carpool or meet on state Highway 75 near the Hulen Meadows parking lot at 10 a.m. Bags, gloves and reflective vests will be provided.

Power Engineers has been ranked 41st on Building Design + Construction's Top 50 Engineering/Architecture Firms list, one of six listings that make up BD+C's Giants 300 rankings, according to a statement released by the Hailey company. BD+C ranks the top U.S. architecture, engineering and construction firms nationwide each year based on the revenue from design and construction of nonresidential buildings.
