Pickup rollover at Dollarhide injures 2

A Ketchum couple is recovering from minor injuries after taking a tumble down Dollarhide Summit in a Ford F150 pickup late Monday afternoon.

Ketchum Fire Chief Mike Elle said Jim and Lita Bennion's vehicle rolled at the top of Dollarhide Summit, west of Ketchum, just 20 yards short of the Camas County line. He said both were wearing seatbelts.

Elle said the couple "self extricated" after the crash and climbed 70 feet back up to the road, but said he was not sure how they summoned help, though Lt. Jay Davis of the Blaine County Sheriff's Office said a 911 call was made to dispatch by a wireless phone.

Davis said Jim Bennion, who was driving at the time of the accident, reported that he was distracted by something to his left, and the truck's right front tire left the road. He tried to steer the truck back on the road, but was unable to and the car rolled over the side of the hill.

Paramedics were paged out at 5:10 p.m. and took an hour to cover the 25 miles of dirt road to reach the couple.

Jim Bennion was driven to Rough Creek and transported to St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center by helicopter. Lita Bennion was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Hospital spokeswoman Tanya Keim said both patients were treated and released.
