Fire near Gannett quickly doused

By EXPRESS STAFF

The origin is unknown, but a fire on private property northeast of Gannett was quickly extinguished by crews from area fire departments Wednesday.

Capt. Ron Taylor of Wood River Fire & Rescue said Carey Quick Response was the initial responder and called for mutual aid from Wood River, Bellevue and the Bureau of Land Management. He said Wood River arrived on the scene at 12:38 p.m.

"The blaze was in crop residue—1-2 feet high. It might have been a hayfield that had just been cut," Taylor said. "The fire was put under control very quickly. About five, maybe seven acres max burned. The crew did a good job stopping the fire from getting to the hillside where it might have gotten away from us."
