Mankind preys on the Earth

I enjoyed your insights in the Aug. 21 editorial, "The fight between two predators."

Let's get radical! It's fair to say that mankind has been a force of nature rather than just another species since the Industrial Revolution. The biosphere has become a carcass. The U.S. is the alpha male with first dibs. Everyone comes after, from China to the other carnivores in the waiting line. Competition can get ugly. The Earth is the last sizeable prey, the last elk.
