Cavallino Lounge to close its doors

Ketchum bar shutting down Saturday

The Cavallino Lounge in Ketchum will serve its last martini Saturday night.

Owner Damon Ferrari said the bar at 380 N. Leadville Ave. will close its doors "for the foreseeable future" for a variety of reasons.

"My bar manager, Jan Hagawald, received another job offer, which I encouraged him to take," Ferrari said. "He has been operating the business since I moved to Jackson Hole last October. We opened the bar five years ago to be ahead of the hotel curve and restaurant curve, but that hasn't happened yet."

Ferrari said the Cavallino Lounge normally employs 10 to 12 people. It has five more months on its building lease and another 11 months on its liquor license.

"The landlord is doing all he can to help us and get us off the hook," Ferrari said. "We also have a couple of people looking at the business. I had a good time running the business and met a lot of real cool local people. I guess it just wasn't mean't to be."

Ferrari said he is currently helping out with the almond harvest at his family's farm in Merced County, Calif.
