What happened to honesty?

In times past, people could leave their cars unlocked, contents in pickups, etc., and not worry that someone would steal the items. Where did those days go? Are the old values gone, no longer with us? What's happening and why?

Another sad event: Friend's son's log birthday chair (without cushion) left in back of Dad's pickup truck on the evening of Aug. 18. Dad's truck was parked behind Mahoney's in Bellevue. Dad came out and the son's log birthday chair was gone.
