Hear reading of Stoppard

The Royal Larkspur Play Troupe will present a reading of Tom Stoppard’s “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead” at the nexStage Theatre in Ketchum.

Described as "Waiting for Godot" meets "Hamlet," Tom Stoppard's award-winning play "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" is a thought-provoking and entertaining work that explores eternal questions of life and death.

"It is the ultimate of existential plays," said Gary Hoffman, founder of the Royal Larkspur Play Troupe. "We talk about the meaning of life, but we don't frequently talk about the meaning of death."

The play will be a staged workshop reading to take place Friday, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m. at the nexStage Theatre in Ketchum. The one-time performance will have an extensive academic program printed for theatergoers to better understand the play and the playwright. A Q&A session will follow the production. Drinks and snacks will be available in the lobby and there is a suggested donation of $10.

"It's a tough play," Hoffman said. "There are 14 actors and lots of stage direction."

Though the play is a staged reading, expect fun special effects, creative lighting and visual sight gags.

'The ending will be unlike any ending ever seen," Hoffman said. "I challenge people if they did not like the 1990 movie version of the play, to come see the production with an open mind. The play is more accessible. People not familiar with Stoppard will love it."
