Ruth Self

Ruth Self, 87, a longtime visitor to our valley, went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 5, 2009, in San Antonio, Texas.

Ruth was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Prattville, Ala., to Thomas and Eugenia Taines, the third of four daughters. On Nov. 1, 1947, Ruth married Bobby R. Self, a veteran of World War II and a career military man. Her journey with Bob led them to England, Florida, Las Vegas, Germany and ultimately to Texas. Along the way came two sons, Thomas and Richard.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Bobby, in San Antonio, Texas; her sons, Thomas (Jennifer) of Hailey, Idaho, and Richard (Suzanne), grandsons Ethan and Quinn, of Richmond, Virg.; and her sister Myra Jones of Prattville, Ala.

Ruth was laid to rest at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery on Aug. 11, 2009. We love you, Mom.
