FOOL of the Year—a big honor!

Friedman Memorial Airport hands out awards

By EXPRESS STAFF

Despite the name, being picked as the FOOL of the Year is a rare honor that has been bestowed on Friedman Memorial Airport firefighter Jared Larna.

The annual title was awarded to Larna by the Fraternal Order of Leatherheads, a national firefighters' organization. "Leatherheads" stems from the leather protective helmets worn by early firefighters.

Jared, who is also a city of Hailey firefighter, was cited for his work in developing training programs and for a December 2007 rescue of a couple from their burning home in Carey, where Larna lives.

During the August monthly meetings, two other honors were bestowed.

Michael Rasch, general manager of Atlantic Aviation/Sun Valley, was named employee of the year for 2008 at Friedman. He had been picked as the airport's most outstanding employee during the first quarters of 2008. Rasch has been with Atlantic Aviation and its predecessor company, Sun Valley Aviation, for more than 20 years.

Rasch was presented an assortment of gifts, including a $100 U.S. Savings Bond, a Horizon Air roundtrip guest pass, a $500 Hertz Rent A Car gift certificate and other gift certificates.

The airport's outstanding employee for the first quarter of 2009 is Jeremy Marcotte, an employee of Atlantic Aviation/ Sun Valley.
