Two-time Idaho chess champion Garrett Reynolds of Twin Falls and Boise will be moving from table to table Friday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. at Bellevue City Park during an unusual exhibition in which he can simultaneously play up to 30 players.
It's not the first time Reynolds has done this kind of thing. On July 31 in Twin Falls, he played a simultaneous exhibition and won 19 games, drew two, and lost one in a fun and relaxed event sponsored by the city of Twin Falls, Magic Valley Bank, and Barnes and Noble.
Reynolds won the Idaho Chess Association state titles in 2006 and 2009 and is a three-time Idaho scholastic champ.
In such simultaneous exhibition, challengers offer moves as Reynolds moves from table to table. There are no time controls, no scoring, and challengers are able to "pass" during each move sequence if they are not ready to move.
Friday's participants in Bellevue will be of all levels and ages, and will include chess gurus, nuts and newbies. Local winners will receive a commemorative medal. To sign up call Adam Porth at 450-9048.
The Wood River High School chess team is sponsoring the exhibition. The event is held in conjunction with the city of Bellevue's "Ribbon Cutting" party including a free barbecue, picnic, music and a movie and more fun for families.
