There was a Scottish feel to The Valley Club's Wildflower Women's Member/Guest golf tournament Aug. 6-7.
And it wasn't only the Scottish-type weather, with Friday's final round reminiscent of Scotland because of cloudy skies, wind and chilly temperatures in the mid-50s.
This year's tournament committee selected "Scottish Golf" as its theme. Tartan plaids were among decorations adorning the tables. The players donned tartans for their rounds to add a Scottish flavor.
Director of Golf Stoney Brown even composed a clever and humorous poem entitled "Thanks a Lot, Scotland!" that he read during the awards luncheon after flight winners received trophies.
Tipping his hat to the birthplace of golf, Brown poked fun at the Scottish pioneers who devised such a difficult game, in one verse saying, "With consuming devotion, they had wished to prepare, their kids to the notion, that life isn't fair!"
Craving frustration and just heading to the tee in an effort to find it, in Brown's words, were 42 twosomes comprised of a member and guest. Format was a better ball of the two-person teams, with the overall champions being the low net team—and that team could have come from any of three flights.
Overall winners were Susan Lovett and guest Stephanie Gould. Three net and three gross prizes were awarded for each flight. And here are those final results from the club:
