Strong sales for discounted passes

Resort sells ‘more than expected’

Sun Valley Resort's "Buy in July" campaign is a success, the company reports. More full-season passes have been sold for the 2009-2010 winter season than for all of last season.

For the first time in at least 30 years, the resort lowered the cost of its season pass, offering it for $1,499 throughout the month of July. Beginning Nov. 1, a pass will cost $1,999. Last season, the pass cost $2,050.

"The response from the community was very gratifying," said Jack Sibbach, Sun Valley Resort spokesman. "We sold more than we expected, and the new pass was clearly well received."

Sibbach said the company does not reveal its pass sales, but sales were significantly up for the season and 20-day passes, the latter of which cost $750 in July, compared to $1,000 at full price. Last year, the 20-day pass cost $700 with the early season discount.

"We heard a lot of excitement at the ticket office and saw a big rush during the last two or three days of July," Sibbach said.

Sibbach said that after the response to the discounted season pass this year, he hoped that it would be offered again for the 2010-2011 season.
