Walter Kiechel, former managing editor of Fortune magazine and senior vice president and ex-editorial director of Harvard Business School Publishing, will speak at 6 p.m. tonight at the Community Library in Ketchum. The talk will be free.
Kiechel will speak on his new book, "Lords of Strategy: The Secret History of the New Corporate World." The book is a history of business ideas and the people behind them.
Kiechel joined Fortune in 1977 as a reporter and wrote a number of the magazine's cover stories on corporate strategy, workaholics and forecasting patterns. His column "Office Hours" expounded on managerial technique, its psychology and sociology. The columns have been published in a book of the same name.
He has also chaired daily broadcasts on "The New Economy" for CBS Radio and hosted Fortune's CNBC television program. He graduated with honors from Harvard with law and MBA degrees and Phi Beta Kappa election, and is a member of the New York bar. He served in the U.S. Navy as an officer on destroyers and has been director and president of the Literacy Volunteers of New York, where he is now a board member
