Triathletes make their mark in Twin Falls

At Olympic and sprint distances


Ten Wood River Valley triathletes spent a productive and hot day in Twin Falls Saturday, July 18 for the Twin Falls Triathlon presented by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Magic Valley and Twin Falls Parks and Recreation.

Ketchum's Ashley Crawford, 31, was the women's runner-up in the Olympic Triathlon (1500-meter swim, 24.9-mile bike, 6.2-mile run) and Hailey's Dave McBryant, 60, won his Men's 55-and-up class in the Olympic Triathlon at Twin Falls.

For McBryant, it was his 115th triathlon. He placed eighth in the Men's 60-64 class at 6.22:05 in the Boise 70.3-mile Triathlon June 13.

In the Sprint Triathlon (750-meter swim, 17.1-mile bike, 5.25-mile run), Hailey's Lia Johnson won the Women's 36-45 age class and Max Butler of Ketchum captured the Boys' 17-and-under division.

There were 37 starters and 33 finishers in the 32-mile Olympic plus 69 starters and 65 finishers in the 23-mile Sprint Triathlon. Men's winners were Ian Nelson of Provo, Utah in the Olympic (2.24:24) and Rob Thiry of Boise in the Sprint (1.50:45).

Olympic women's winner Trish Deim, 30, of Meridian (2.35:23) and Ketchum's Crawford (2.51:41) duplicated their 1-2 finish from the Redfish Lake Olympic Triathlon June 20. The women's Sprint winner at Twin was Linsey Abo of Boise (2.07:06).

Women's overall: 2—Ashley Crawford 2.51:41 (12th place); splits 24:47 swim, 1.18:56 bike, 1.05:49 run.

Men's 26-35: 5—Douglas Oplt 3.05:25 (15th man); 33:51 swim, 1.21:35 bike, 1.06:16 run.

Men's 36-45: 5—Daryl Fauth 2.58:58 (12th); 39:41 swim, 1.16:45 bike, 58:32 run.

Men's 55-up: 1—Dave McBryant 3.07:24 (17th man); 32:41 swim, 1.19:29 bike, 1.13:15 run.

Women's 36-45: 2—Jennifer Hooper 3.20:27 (9th woman); 38:56 swim, 1.30:31 bike, 1.06:54 run.

Women's 36-45: 1—Lia Johnson 2.13:46 (4th woman); 20:30 swim, 1.02:09 bike, 45:57 run.

Men's 46-54: 4—Curtis Martin 2.13:40 (13th man); 18:37 swim, 57:19 bike, 54:54 run.

Men's 26-35: 2—Erik Lisk 1.56:37 (4th man); 18:57 swim, 52:40 bike, 41:24 run.

Boys' 17-and-under: 1—Max Butler 2.12:51 (12th); 13:21 swim, 1.01:22 bike, 55:37 run.
