Marsalis story to air on ABC

A story about convicted Sun Valley rapist Jeffrey J. Marsalis is scheduled to air tonight at 9 p.m. Mountain time on ABC News Primetime, channel 8.

An ABC news and film crew has been working on the story for the past several months. The crew attended Marsalis' trial in Boise in April and attended his sentencing on June 30. Several local authorities and Marsalis were interviewed for the story.

Marsalis was convicted by a jury in Boise of raping a woman in Sun Valley in 2005. He was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison. He is also serving a 21-year sentence in Pennsylvania for sex crime convictions in Philadelphia in 2007.

National Dems to meet in Idaho

About 100 Western Democratic leaders will gather at the Coeur d'Alene Casino Resort Hotel August 7-9 for the Democratic National Committee's 2009 Western States Caucus Conference.

"We are truly excited to bring the Democratic National Committee's Western Caucus to Idaho for the first time," said Jeanne Buell, vice chairwoman of the Idaho Democratic Party and an organizer of the event. "This will give us another opportunity to show how Democrats are gaining ground in the Mountain West, as well as to showcase the beauty of North Idaho and the warm hospitality of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe."

Buell, who also serves on the executive committee of the Association of State Democratic Chairs, said the meeting was scheduled for Idaho in recognition of the work that Idaho Democrats have done to start changing the state's political landscape, including the election of Congressman Walt Minnick and the record-shattering attendance at the 2008 presidential caucuses statewide.
