People and Places

Three local students were among 1,500 attending the National Association of Student Councils' Conference June 27-30 at Highlands Ranch High School in Colorado. NASC offers leadership training for students and advisors. This year the focus was "The Climb" to outstanding leadership.

Chauncey McGraw, student body president for 2009-10, and fellow Wood River High School Student Union members Kaili Smith and Spyder Turco made the 14-hour drive from Hailey to Colorado with advisor Geraldine Maniere.

Delegates took part in the Recycling X Games, hands-on activities and events modeled after the X Games held in Aspen. The local students gave up a week of their summer vacation to learn new ideas in leadership, service and student activities to bring back to the students of Wood River.

More than 6,000 students have been awarded a combined $22 million in scholarship support from the University of Idaho for the 2009-10 academic year. Local scholarship students include:
