Trial starts in cocaine case

Suspect may also be an illegal immigrant

Francisco Llamas-Espino

Jury selection started Tuesday in Blaine County 5th District Court for a man accused of dealing cocaine.

Francisco Llamas-Espino, 34, was one of five suspects arrested by the Blaine County Narcotics Enforcement Team in a major cocaine and methamphetamine bust in February and March. He was indicted by a Blaine County grand jury on March 11 on one count of trafficking in cocaine and one count of delivery of cocaine.

The trial is expected to last two days. Llamas-Espino is represented by Hailey attorney Douglas Nelson.

Llamas-Espino remained incarcerated on $125,000 bond in the Blaine County jail. He is also suspected of being an illegal immigrant.

The case is being heard by Judge John K. Butler, who normally presides in Jerome County. The case was assigned to Butler because Judge Barry Wood, who normally presides in Gooding County, was on vacation. Wood was assigned the case after Blaine County 5th District Court Judge Robert J. Elgee was disqualified on a motion filed by the Blaine County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
