Editorial wrong on climate

The editorial in the July 1 issue of the Mountain Express scolds Rep. Walt Minnick for voting against the American Clean Energy and Security Act. Did the thought ever occur to the writer that perhaps Rep. Minnick voted against the bill because (1) the bill would not result in any significant reduction of CO2 (it would merely impose huge fines on industries that produce CO2 without actually reducing CO2 output), (2) this huge expense would cost each household in America several thousand dollars per year during a time of deep recession, (3) there is no physical evidence that CO2 is the cause of global warming (the concept is based solely on computer modeling, which has proven to be totally wrong over the past 10 years), (4) global warming ended in 1998 and we have now entered a global cooling period (the Pacific Ocean has switched from its warm mode of 1977 to 1998 into its cool mode where it will remain for at least three decades), and (5) the enormous added expense of producing power will likely result in overseas relocations that will cost millions of jobs and increase our dependence on foreign energy.
