Valley Club golf director Stoney Brown said 60 two-man teams will tee it up starting today, Wednesday for the club's 14th annual Moose Madness Men's Member-Guest golf tournament.
And somebody will probably get a little wet.
That, of course, is the tradition that the winners of Moose Madness usually continue each year—by jumping in the pond near the final hole. Dick Shelton and Mike Davis did it last July after winning the Moose Chase five-hole shootout.
Brown explained the format this way: He said, "Each team is comprised of a Valley Club member and their guest. Guests come from not only the valley but the entire country as well. Teams tee it up for a practice round on Wednesday and start the tournament on Thursday, July 9.
"The format is a round robin event with 10 flights of six teams each. Each team in the flight will play a nine-hole match with the other five teams in their flight with nine points up for grabs in each match.
"After the final nine-hole match on Saturday, the flight winners (total points leaders) will meet in 10-team shootout to determine the overall champion for the 2009 Moose Madness. Saturday evening is the awards dinner where the champions and flight winners will be honored."
Last year's second-place team on the West Nine featured Richard Brown and Bill Hill. In third place were David Hennessy and Jeff Russell, while fourth place went to Roger Miller and Louie d'Ambrosio.
