Ketchum loves a good party, and it has planned a big one for Fourth of July weekend with live music every evening and lots to do for all who attend. The weekend festivities will begin Friday, July 3, with an affordable concert at the Clarion Inn on the Rustic Moose deck featuring Tony Furtado, with the Kim Stocking Band opening. Tickets are $10 and available at Ketchum Dry Goods on Sun Valley Road. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the show will start at 6:30 p.m.

Furtado is no stranger to the Wood River Valley, having been performing shows in the area for over 10 years. Furtado played for a packed house at the Boiler Room in Sun Valley only a few months ago and said it was a great experience.

"Sun Valley is like a second home for me," said Furtado, whose home base is Portland, Ore.

Furtado has released a new CD, "Deep Water," which he said was a very interesting experience. He recorded its 14 songs in Boston.

"It is being received well," he said. "It is a completely original album, and I wrote all the songs, play guitar and banjo and sing. It is a personal statement, and it was done quickly."

He was inspired to make "Deep Water" because of timing and what was happening in the world around him, from politics to the books he was reading.

"I was reading Edward Abbey, Richard Wright and Charles Bukowski," Furtado said. "Some people hate Bukowski, but I love him and in my opinion he was a great writer. I also read poetry by Wallace Stevens and Walt Whitman and listened to some interesting stuff such as Bon Iver and Elliot Smith."

Furtado is an acclaimed banjo player and accomplished slide guitar musician, among his many talents as a singer and songwriter. He blends rock music with elements of Americana, folk and pop. His band will feature Leftover Salmon's Tye North and Tyrone Hendrix, a cousin of Jimi Hendrix.

"It's gonna be a mix of new and old stuff," he said. "I have put together a power trio."

Live music continues for the Fourth on Fourth celebration on Saturday, July 4, with a free concert by Dallas Alice at 7 p.m. with opening band the valley's own The Damphools at 4:30 p.m. A kids carnival as well as games, prizes and bouncy house will take place from 4-7 p.m. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
