The weather helps make Suns Golf Classic a winner

Benefit at Elkhorn Golf Course

Capturing second-place net, with a 47 in Saturday’s Suns Golf Classic at Elkhorn Golf Course, was the Idaho Steelheads squad. They are, from left, Sheryl Scott, Derek Paget, Mike Hanson, Jeremy Mylymok and Clint Mylymok. Posing with the Boise-based team, at the right, is Johnny Miller of The Suns Foundation.

Great timing is always important for successful hockey players and teams—and the Sun Valley Suns men's ice hockey team had great timing with the weather for Saturday's second annual Suns Foundation and Sun Valley Suns Golf Classic at Elkhorn Golf Club.

With a month of rainy weather apparently done, The Suns Foundation enjoyed a beautiful summer day and attracted 80 golfers for the five-person modified best ball—the fifth player in each group being a current Sun Valley Suns hockey player or alumni star.

First place net with a score of 44 went to the Minnesota team of Jim Sedin, Mary Louise Sedin, Tim Jeneson, Ricky Jeneson and John "Cub" Burke. Stars of the top group were Mary Louise Sedin and Ricky Jeneson, who was playing his first-ever 18-hole round.

The first-place gross team with a 63 consisted of Brandon Hughes, Mark Stone, Steph Rowley, Crockett Stearns and Ryan Thomson.

Second-place net, with 47, was the Idaho Steelheads squad of Clint Mylymok, Mike Hanson, Derek Paget, Sheryl Scott and Jeremy Mylymok.

Dead last net with a 59 were Derek Agnew, Toby Ripsom, Robert Parker, Jim Lee and Ryan Enrico.

Among special awards: Longest drives to Noah Loyd and Steph Rowley; shortest drive to Luke Benjamin; closest to the pin to Eric Demment and Sheryl Scott; and 50/50 closest to the pin to Jeremy Mylymok.

Chris Benson of The Suns Foundation gave special thanks to Shane Galles, Don Shirey and the Elkhorn Golf Club staff for hosting the event. Other thanks went to Dave Hennessy and Quigley Canyon Ranch, and Pete Prekeges for emceeing and doing the live auction.
