A Sun Valley Original Returns

Eighteen-year old Louise Flechtner won the Miss Jerome beauty pageant in 1939. Later that year, she was chosen Miss Sun Valley of Idaho in the Idaho Beauty Pageant. But because the state of Idaho could not afford to send her to the Miss America Pageant, Averill Harriman, the owner of Sun Valley Company, paid her way. She came in in fifth place. Louise Brierton, now 88 and living in Johnstown, Penn. stopped in Sun Valley to attend the funeral of her brother-in-law, David Conger. When asked what her secret was to staying young she replied, “having four children and nine grandchildren.” Express photo by Willy Cook
