Sun Valley set to shine in bike world

The Wood River Valley is playing host to editors from cycling and outdoor magazines as well as numerous cycling product manufacturers this week.

The first-ever Bike Press Camp is taking place Tuesday through Thursday, with a number of the events held at the Sun Valley resort, along with road and mountain bike rides throughout the valley.

Put on by Lifeboat Solutions, a California-based event-management, sales and marketing firm focused on the outdoor recreation market, the three-day event has attracted editors and writers from cycling publications such as VeloNews and Bicycling, as well as recreation magazines like Outside and Men's Journal.

Also in attendance will be representatives from bike manufacturers Cannondale, GT and BMC, among others.

Representing the local cycling-related business community are Ketchum-based Scott USA and Smith Sport Optics.

About 70 people are attending the event.

"This couldn't come at a better time for the valley," said Smith spokesman Greg Randolph. "We'll get lots of national and international exposure, and be able to show that we're a bike mecca."
