Junior golfers finish up at Shadow Valley

Valley players finish 10th and 20th

Incoming Wood River High School seniors Crockett Stearns and Chance McCroskey had a chance to play with many of the best junior golfers in Idaho June 15-16 during the 2009 Junior Rocky Mountain Section PGA Championship.

Taking two 18-hole tours of Boise's Shadow Valley Golf Course, Stearns and McCroskey finished back in the pack of the 29-golfer Boys 16-18 class. Boise's Preston Alder won the competition with scores of 73-70 for 143. By winning, Alder qualified for the Junior PGA Championship July 28 in Ohio.

Stearns, the third-place finisher in the State 4A golf tournament May 12 in Rigby, tied for 10th place with scores of 79-78 for 157, 14 strokes behind Alder's pace. McCroskey, another key member of Wood River's silver-medal team at state, was 20th at 80-84 for 164.

There were 89 male and female golfers in the 16-18, 13-15 and 12-and-under classes at Shadow Valley over two days.
