Your June 10 editorial, about New York doctor Thomas Frieden being picked by President Obama recently to head the Centers for Disease Control, was terrific—particularly the statistics you cited in relation to smoking-related deaths and injuries. Every (very self-destructive) smoker in America—and elsewhere—should be required by law to watch the infuriating and remarkable 1999 Michael Mann movie "The Insider" (with Russell Crowe and Al Pacino), about tobacco-industry scientist and whistleblower Jeffrey Wigand, who went on "60 Minutes" and courageously talked openly about the hundreds of synthetic and carcinogenic additives that are routinely added to cigarettes as part of a "nicotine-delivery system." It was a vicious system that, once it was exposed, led to all 50 states successfully suing for the first time those blissfully apathetic and arrogant cigarette makers for monies those states have to spend each year on smoking-related illnesses.
And your editorial a few weeks back—about the incessant, obnoxious noise on Highway 75 that was going on during the Memorial Day ceremonies at Ketchum Cemetery—was excellent, also. Glad to know I wasn't the only one there that day who was really annoyed by that very disrespectful cacophony.
