Hailey's fireworks a go, without fundraising

City says it has sufficient funds for annual Fourth of July event

Hailey Mayor Rick Davis has announced that the city will present its annual Fourth of July fireworks display without a fundraising drive in the weeks prior to the event.

Davis said in a monthly report on city business that Hailey officials have not implemented a drive to raise money for the fireworks display because they determined that many businesses, families and individuals might not be able to make a contribution.

"We recognize that the economic downturn has affected our community in many ways," the report states.

Davis said donations in past years have been sufficient to raise an initial endowment for the fireworks of $50,000 to more than $137,000.

"Please be assured that an outstanding display is planned from the fund's reserves," the report states.
